Highest Ratios of Pangrams to Word Counts
Every Spelling Bee puzzle has at least one pangram, a word that uses all seven letters in the puzzle. (A perfect pangram is seven letters long and uses each letter only once; other pangrams have repeated letters and are eight or more letters long.)
Most Bees (about 70%) have only one pangram, but the rest have multiple pangrams, from as few as 2 to as many as 7 or more. The Spelling Bee of 2025-10-01 had a high number of pangrams – five – which was all the more remarkable considering that the total word count for that puzzle was just 30 words.
In response to a query about that phenomemon posed in the Spelling Bee forum, LexiConnexxions identified all the Spelling Bees that have had the highest ratio of pangrams to word counts.
The table at right shows the proportion of pangrams expressed as a percentage of total word count; the puzzle date; and the numbers of pangrams and total words. For example, the first line shows that in the Bee of 2025-10-01, the 5 pangrams comprised 16.67% of the 30-word solution set.
