In nearly all the Spelling Bee puzzles, the solution set (word list) comprises words that begin with 5, 6, or 7 of the seven puzzle letters. (A Bee that has seven different starting letters is a “bingo” puzzle.)
A very small number of Bees – just 82 – have used words that begin with only four different letters.
An even smaller number of Bees – only 13 – have used words that begin with only three different letters.

Only 2 Bees have used words that begin with only two different letters.
And only 2 Bees have used words that all begin with the same one letter. So, of all Spelling Bees to date, the solution sets of only 99 puzzles have had four or fewer starting letters. They are all listed below.
