The combining forms -log -logy (and their various forms) trace back to the Greek word logos, meaning reason, speech, and discourse. We see this root in English words about certain forms of oral or written expression, or in the names of specific doctrines, theories, or science.
The Spelling Bee lexicon includes many words about speech or science that are built on this old, old word; they are shown below.
A few other Bee words include similar sequences of letters (HOLOGRAM, cologne, bologna, etc.); these are not related etymologically. All the words in the Spelling Bee lexicon that include this combining form are shown (and defined) below. Being aware of these words within the Bee lexicon can improve solving skills when the daily Bee contains the letters L, O, and G.
Pangrams are shown in ALL CAPS. Bee words marked with an asterisk have been used in at least one Spelling Bee puzzle, then subsequently disallowed; they are retained here for historical interest.
