LexiTopics
In its 10,300+ words, the Spelling Bee lexicon covers hundreds of subjects and topics. The coverage in the Bee lexicon of various topics (nautical, medical, anatomy, textiles, religion, etc.) has long been a frequent topic of interest and discussion in the Spelling Bee forum. The LexiTopic reports listed below provide objective data on the many topics represented in the Spelling Bee Lexicon. Please review "Important Information about this Resource" at the bottom of this page.
Before you continue ... The LexiTopics project is a work in progress; as our work continues, and as new words enter the Spelling Bee lexicon, the taxonomy, word analysis, and presentation are subject to change. New topics will be added, and existing topics may be combined, divided, or re-named. And that means that links will change.
Therefore, to share any LexiTopic reports, we recommend that you link only to this page, https://www.lexiconnexxions.com/lexitopics/, as it (and its URL) will remain stable as the project continues.

Important Information about this Resource:
As of 2024-08-07, analysis has been completed in the A-L portion of the Spelling Bee lexicon, which comprises 63% of the entire lexicon; as the analysis continues, the reports will be updated, and more topics will be added. Each of these reports is a work in progress and is subject to change; as the analysis continues, adjustments may be required across the entire taxonomy to accommodate new taxonomical terms, additional concepts, etc.
The number of words shown for each topic is not necessarily the number of discrete, unique words; rather, it represents the number of unique words plus the number of additional definitions that exist for many words. For example, in the Animals category, the word FROG is listed twice, because it has two unrelated meanings: First (and perhaps most familiar), a frog is "any of various largely aquatic leaping anuran amphibians (such as ranids) that have slender bodies with smooth moist skin and strong long hind legs with webbed feet." But a frog is also "the triangular elastic horny pad in the middle of the sole of the foot of a horse." Thus, the word "frog" appears twice in the list of Bee words related to animals. In the same way, any word may be included in more than one LexiTopics list; for example, the word ACID has meanings related to chemistry, geology, food, color, and speech.
Within the documents, words marked with an asterisk have been used in at least one Bee puzzle, then subsequently disallowed; they are retained here for historical interest.
M-W refers to Merriam-Webster (abridged); NOAD refers to the North American Oxford Dictionary. Please review the important note HERE about the use of dictionaries by the Spelling Bee editor. Updated 2024-09-04
